Our levels of instruction at Arq offer the skills needed to safely climb and belay throughout the gym.  From the beginner stages of using a belay device through to leading your project, each of our instructional courses are designed for you to operate safely and responsibly.
Welcome to ARQ (basic skills with top rope belaying and facility etiquette)

As a new climber, this program is perfect for introducing the basic skills to navigate through ARQ’s facility. Whether top rope management (belaying, communication, figure-8 knot, equipment, basic climbing technique), auto-belay stations, proper etiquette in the bouldering area, using the kids zone, and responsible usage of the fitness space, learning these skills will give you the confidence you need to navigate ARQ.

ARQ Level 1 – Top Rope Climbing

The level 1 Top Rope Climbing program gives an in-depth look at top rope climbing in ARQ. Specifically, belaying, movement, the figure-8 knot, and communication – once finished this class, you’ll have the skills needed to get you and your partner off the ground and climbing; having a great time.

BOOK
ARQ Level 2 – Lead Climbing

Take your skills to the next level, and tie into the sharp end. Arq’s lead climbing course will take you through the skills needed to lead climb safely in a controlled (indoor) environment. Guiding you through belaying, clipping, falling/catching a fall (soft and hard), communication, and a general awareness to situational scenarios, once completed, Arq’s facility will provide you with endless opportunities.

Cost: $80/person or for a family/group (3 or more) $70/person

Prerequisites: Successful Completion of Top Rope belay test, 14 years of age and over
Duration: 3hrs (which can be broken up into two 1.5hr classes)
Includes: Rental Equipment and Day Pass

Arq Testing

If you feel confident in your already existing skills, you can simply take a belay test for top-rope or lead climbing. If you pass the test, you can proceed to climb without any programming requirements.

Top Rope Testing – 15 mins $10/person (one time fee)
Lead Climb Testing – 20-25 mins $15/person (one time fee)
Joint Testing – 30-60 mins $20/person (one time fee)

You must pass each test to be certified. Re-testing is available for $10. Tests are free for all ARQ Members (EFT & Annual Pre-Paid)

Brush up, learn, and gain confidence for lead climbing (outside)

It’s that time of year again to freshen up on your lead skills. We’ll be offering two (separate) classes: March 21st and 29th from 7-10pm. This class will take you through the steps of lead climbing, as well as giving you the opportunity to re-gain your confidence heading into the outdoor season. From basics to advanced technique, it’s a safe environment to get your “lead head” in order. Clipping, rope management, body positioning, FALLING, proper belaying; we’ll be covering all the details to ensure your safety to lead at Arq and even go outside.
